U.S. Army Pushing To Develop Advanced Electronic Warfare Technologies

Jared Keller, National Interest/Task and Purpose: The Army Can Now Stop Enemy Tanks in Their Tracks without Firing a Shot

U.S. Army personnel have successfully used advanced electronic warfare technology to completely disable enemy armor during a simulated tank assault at the Army National Training Center, Defense Systems reports.

Developed by the Army Rapid Capabilities Office (RCO), the combination of wireless communications-jamming and hacker exploits of vehicle systems forces enemy tanks to “stop, dismount, get out of their protection, [and] reduce their mobility,” as one Army observer described the ANTC training exercise at Fort Irwin, California.

WNU Editor: It looks like they know how to fry the electronics. If they can do it for tanks .... my guess they can then do it for anything that involves electronics.

I doubt it.

You can hack and take control of an OBD2 compliant vehicle,

Pre-OBD and OBD1, nope.

The Tankograd Blog has deep and detailed info on Russian/Soviet gear, and the reality is, there still isn't that much digital, computer and wireless gear in Red Team tanks and armour.

Also, a tank is relatively stationary / slow moving in comparison to lets say aircraft.. plus.. if they can do it to tanks they wouldn't obviously be able to do it to a sub.. much much much harder :)

Electronics, once the war really starts is the Achilles heal for all the armies, targeting, communication and Reconnaissance are very dependent on highly sophisticated electronics. The GPS system is a high priority target for both China and Russia, losing that would be a disaster for Western Armies, Map and Compass skills are no longer taught and practiced as they once were, as the GPS is so much easier to use.
